WebPheochromocytoma is a tumor of the adrenal glands. The tumor makes hormones called epinephrine and norepinephrine. This leads to an excess of the hormones in the body. These hormones help manage heart rate and blood pressure, and they have other tasks. Too much of these hormones in the body causes problems. WebIn rare cases, a pheochromocytoma occurs outside the adrenal gland. When it does, it is usually somewhere else in the abdomen. Very few pheochromocytomas are cancerous. The tumors may occur at any age, but they are most common from early to mid-adulthood. In few instances, the condition may also be seen among family members (hereditary).
